OCD
According to the International OCD Foundation, approximately 1 in 40 adults will develop OCD in their lifetimes, and many people suffer for years before getting a formal diagnosis and accessing specialized treatment. If you have OCD, you know what it’s like when a thought gets “stuck,” showing up uninvited and refusing to let go. Sometimes these thoughts center on contamination, symmetry, or needing things to feel “just right.” Just as often though, they take a darker turn: violent, sexual, or superstitious thoughts that feel completely at odds with who you really are. People with OCD often live with shame because of these obsessions, developing mental or behavioral compulsions to reduce their distress.
OCD can get in the way of living your life, but treatment works. Daniel is a specialist in the assessment and treatment of OCD and offers two evidence-based approaches: Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT).
Stress and Anxiety
Anxiety is the most common mental health condition worldwide, impacting over 1 in 4 people. Stress and anxiety can result in worries that just won’t quiet. You might find yourself repeating or rehearsing conversations in your mind, worrying about judgment or failure, or making your life smaller to avoid stressful circumstances. Anxiety can also show up in your body, like teeth griding, muscle tightness, racing heart, panic attacks, or stomach problems. Stress can show up as burnout, apathy, and hopelessness.
Thankfully, stress and anxiety are treatable. Daniel has experience helping people with all kinds of anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, stress, and burnout.
Depression
Depression is one of the most common mental health conditions in the United States, with data showing it affects roughly 1 in 8 people nationwide. Living with depression can feel like moving through a fog. Everyday tasks become heavier and hope feels out of reach. Daniel offers a compassionate, judgment-free space to navigate what you’re experiencing and work toward meaningful relief. Whether you’re facing a difficult moment or a longer-standing struggle with depression, therapy can offer a steady, supportive place to rediscover your strength, rebuild resilience, and move toward a life that feels more fully your own.
PTSD and Trauma
When someone lives through or witnesses something terrifying or overwhelming, it’s natural for their mind and body to react, and sometimes those reactions linger. That can mean nightmares, intrusive thoughts or memories, avoidance of trauma reminders, difficulties with memory or focus, feeling bad about yourself, feeling distant or detached from others, problems sleeping, self-destructive behaviors, feeling fidgety or easy to startle, always needing to be “on guard,” anxiety, or depression.
If you’ve experienced trauma (or multiple traumas), treatment can help. Daniel has advanced training and experience with the two gold standard treatments for PTSD: Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
Identity Exploration
Exploring and claiming identities can be a powerful form of self-knowledge. Perhaps you grew up in an environment that wasn’t affirming of gender diversity or queerness, or you need a safe space to explore your identity without pressure or fear of judgment. Perhaps you’re first generation or come from an immigrant family and don’t quite know where you can feel a sense of belonging. As an anti-oppression scholar who served as a professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Daniel has taught and published on these questions and is an expert in helping you find your own answers as part of an expansive life.
As part of my commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community, I provide free gender-affirming evaluations and letters of support. Renewing previous letters is also a free service.
Sex and Sexual Health
Therapy can provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space to explore concerns that many people find difficult to discuss elsewhere. This may include addressing challenges such as low desire, difficulties with arousal or orgasm, pain during sex, mismatched libidos between partners, the sexual impact of medical conditions or medications, and the aftermath of sexual trauma. Therapy focused on sexual health can also help people work through shame or anxiety tied to sexuality, and improve communication and intimacy within relationships.
Daniel has advanced training and expertise in working with sexual issues. Treatment may involve individual therapy, couples counseling, psychoeducation about sexual anatomy and response, or collaboration with medical providers to address common physical contributors to sexual difficulties. The overarching goal is to help clients develop a healthier, more joyful relationship with their own sexuality and with their partners, grounded in accurate information and personalized care. Therapy with Daniel is always affirming of LGBTQIA+ and kink/poly/CNM populations and the desire to experience sexual flourishing on one’s own terms.
Men’s Issues
Alignment Therapy offers specialized support for men navigating the unique demands of masculinity, including relationship challenges, fatherhood and family dynamics, career stress, sexual concerns, body image, and emotional well-being. Daniel offers a judgment-free space where men can explore complex thoughts and feelings, process anger and stress, and develop coping strategies without the stigma often attached to seeking help.
Body Image
Our relationship with our bodies can influence how we move through the world. If you find yourself caught in a cycle of self-criticism, comparison, or discomfort in your own skin, you’re not alone. These worries can be exhausting and isolating. Whether your concerns center on body size or shape, the gendered ways bodies are “supposed” to look, or a particular set of features you find distressing, therapy can help. Care at Alignment Therapy is Health at Every Size (HAES) affirming and body liberation oriented.
Neurodiversity Support
Neurodiversity itself is normal, but neurodiverse individuals sometimes require additional support in a society that’s less than inclusive. Perhaps you’ve recently come into a neurodivergent identity or certain experiences are making you wonder. Perhaps you were diagnosed as a child or adolescent, but life is currently demanding more executive function than you have to spare. Therapy can help. Daniel is neurodiversity-informed and affirming, and experienced in helping people who are navigating high pressure environments where focus and attention present challenges. Please note: Daniel doesn’t offer diagnostic assessments for neurodiversity at this time.
Couples Counseling
Couples counseling offers a structured, supportive space where relationship members can work through conflict, rebuild trust, and strengthen connection. Sessions often focus on improving communication patterns, helping partners understand each other’s needs and perspectives, and identifying the underlying dynamics that drive recurring arguments or disconnection. Daniel often helps couples navigate specific challenges such as infidelity, differing parenting approaches, financial disagreements, sexual concerns, life transitions, or the strain of blending families. Daniel utilizes the Gottman Method of couples counseling due to the decades of research behind it. Ultimately, the goal is to help both partners feel heard and understood, resolve conflict constructively, and build a more resilient, satisfying relationship rooted in friendship and shared meaning.
